by Pamela Blalock

Reassembly goes much faster. Keep in mind as you remove the padding to keep the sections together - It makes packing easier later.

  • Put the frame back together - hand tighten couplers.
  • Reattach rear derailleur.
  • Put stoker bars back on captains seat assembly. Regrease anything you wiped down before. Insert captains seatpost into frame - this gives you something secure to lean against a wall.
  • Remount rear fender - before putting on rear wheel. Remount rear rack.
  • Put the wheels back together, with skewers. Put air in the tires.
  • Get the fork and headset parts, cable hanger, etc. and captains stem and bars and reassemble.
  • Put wheels in. Lean bike against wall - stand back, breathe and admire.
  • Put on rubber gloves. Remount cranks and chains. Remove rubber gloves or clean hands.
  • Use wrench to tighten couplers.
  • Resecure the downtube doohickeys and all cables.
  • Reattach front fender and bottle cages.
  • Put stoker seatpost back in.
  • Check that saddles and bars are straight.
  • Check shifting, braking etc.
  • Check that all bolts are tight.
  • Attach pump, racktop bag, computers, GPS, handlebar bags, panniers, waterbottles, etc.
  • Throw all the padding and bags into the cases.
